The CCIE or Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert is a certification from Cisco and represents the highest level of certifiable competency with Cisco equipment.

There are five tracks:

Each of these tracks comprises of a written exam and a lab exam. The lab is the more difficult element, requiring intricate knowledge of the protocols, products and troubleshooting techniques relevant to the area of examination.

Sucessful CCIE candidates are given a unique CCIE Number. People with multiple CCIE's (for example, a Routing and Switching and a Security CCIE) have a single number to represent all of them.
